Mainstreaming Environment and in particular Drylands Issues into National Development Frameworks
The Drylands Development Centre is inviting you to participate in an electronic forum on mainstreaming environment and in particular drylands issues into national development frameworks. The forum will be based on draft generic guidelines developed to support countries in their efforts to mainstream drylands issues into national development frameworks as a basis for improving the livelihoods of millions of the poor who live in the dry regions of the world. The Generic Guidelines were developed taking into account lessons learnt and experiences gained from 21 countries engaged in mainstreaming environment and drylands issues into development frameworks, and lessons learnt from a review of other international organizations’ guidelines. The forum will begin on 08 October 2007. Contributions to the forum can be in English and/or French.
The objective of the forum is to provide an opportunity to all participants to review, discuss and provide feedback and additional inputs for improving and finalizing the draft Generic Guidelines for mainstreaming. The Forum presents an opportunity to share your, ideas, lessons learnt and experiences gained on what has worked or not worked in your country in mainstreaming environment and drylands issues into national development frameworks. It offers a platform for participants to make specific suggestions for improving the Generic Guidelines as a tool for assisting countries in their mainstreaming initiatives. The forum is expected to run for four weeks.
